A finales de los 60 se fue el equipo de composición y producción musical formado por Lamont Dozier y por los hermanos Brian Holland y Edward Holland, Jr., lo cual inició una decadencia lenta del sello que desembocaría años más tarde en su venta. A pesar de eso el motor siguió carburando en los 70's, con artistas como Lionel Richie, The Commodores, Rick James, Teena Marie y DeBarge.
Otro fue el rol político que tuvo en la lucha de los derechos de la población afroamericana, siendo su sello Black Forum Records un difusor de los discursos de activistas como Luther King o Elaine Brown.
La gran influencia y transformación que generó Motown es evidente y no viene a caso latear con el tema, lo mejor es oirlos e ir descubriendo los gérmenes que permearon profundamente en la escena musical posterior hasta nuestros días. A veces la influencia es directa en como por ejemplo en "Easy" de Faith No More o "Dancing in the Street" de los Rolling Stones que fueron covers de The Commodores y Martha & The Vandellas respectivamente, entre muchísimos otros.
A continuación las canciones de sus diez discos de su recopilatorio The Complete Motown #1s Box, que contiene 201 canciones que fueron número uno. Un dato anecdótico es que este set viene en una cajita con forma de casa, que es un réplica del mítico estudio "Hitsville USA" en Detroit, que inicialmente fue un estudio fotográfico y después de ser adquirido por Motown se armó en su subterráneo un mítico estudio en el que se cocinó una parte importante de la historia del sello.
